The Ice-O-Lator gets its name from a filtration bag patented in the 1990s by Dutch pioneer Mila Jansen, a trailblazer in artisanal resin extraction. The principle behind it is simple but radical. It involves submerging the plant material in ice-cold water to separate the trichomes through cold and agitation, without any solvents. The ice-cold water makes the resin glands brittle and dense, causing them to fall naturally from the plant during agitation, while the plant material, being less dense, remains suspended. 

This idea, developed alongside the dry-sifting methods that were dominant at the time, gave rise to a new category of concentrates, water hash or bubble hash, for which the Ice-O-Lator is the pioneering model. The concept was then refined with multi-stage filtration systems—the famous bubble bags, which allow trichomes to be sorted by size and the purest grades to be isolated.

Production begins with the cfreezing of freshly harvested hemp flowers, a crucial step that preserves the trichomes at their peak maturity before any oxidation occurs. 

The frozen flowers are then placed in a bubbleator, an extractor that agitates them in a bath of ice water maintained at a temperature between 2 and 4°C. The mechanical agitation in this cold environment detaches the plant’s resin glands without crushing them, thereby preserving their integrity and terpene richness. 

The water containing trichomes is then filtered through a series of mesh bags with progressively finer mesh sizes, ranging from 220 microns down to 25 microns, to retain only the grades with the highest cannabinoid concentrations. The harvested trichomes are finally dried thoroughly to remove any residual moisture, then gently pressed into blocks ready for consumption.
