CBD is an active cannabinoid molecule derived from hemp. We're hearing a lot about CBD these days, particularly for its benefits in promoting generalized relaxation of the body. The molecule is also said to be an excellent anti-anxiety remedy. CBD oil and anxiety: here's what you need to know.
What is anxiety?
Anxiety is a bit like the disease of the century. We see it a lot in health magazines, and we regularly come across the word on social networks: social anxiety, generalized anxiety, and so on. Anxiety can be felt in a specific context, such as during exam periods, or without any specific reason in the case of generalized anxiety.
It's difficult to know the exact cause of anxiety, which is a generalized feeling of fear and dread. The condition is often accompanied by physical symptoms (e.g. sleep disturbances, headaches, dizziness, vertigo, nausea, diarrhea/abdominal discomfort, heart palpitations or accelerated heart rate, choking or choking sensation, excessive sweating, etc.).
Scientific studies on CBD oil and anxiety
It's scientifically proven that CBD is a natural solution to anxiety. The relaxing potential of cannabidiol has been suspected for some years, and scientific studies have multiplied in recent years. We now have official proof thatCBD oil has anti-anxiety properties, and is also effective against panic attacks and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder[1].
One study, for example, investigated the effect of CBD by administering cannabidiol oil to people afraid of public speaking. They were given 300mg to 600mg of CBD and all the volunteers saw their social phobia regress when speaking in public [2].
How does CBD oil work against anxiety?
We're familiar with the immune system or even the nervous system, but we're less familiar with the endocannabinoid system, discovered just 30 years ago. The endocannabinoid system, or ECS, is made up of cannabinoid receptors found in our brain and immune system.
Receptors in this system are activated by cannabinoids as naturally present in the body as in CBD. Several studies have now proven that CBD acts directly on serotonin receptors, as demonstrated by a Brazilian study. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter associated with well-being, especially when present in sufficient quantities in the body.
CBD oil and anxiety: what you need to know
Following numerous scientific studies, it has now been officially proven that CBD calms anxiety. The molecule derived from hemp acts directly on the human endocannabinoid system, stimulating serotonin in particular - the neurotransmitter of well-being.
